July
Dead head camellias and rhododendrons if not already done.
Keep tall perennials tied to supports.
Remove rose suckers and continue spraying plants regularly to combat aphids, mildew and blackspot. Use a fungicide/insecticide combined. Tie in climbing and rambling roses.
Keep all plants ‘dead headed’ this will encourage another flush of flowers.
Pinch out side shoot from tomatoes and once fruit has set feed regularly with a tomato fertilizer.
To help control white fly in the greenhouse hang up yellow sticky traps between the plants.
Keep your hanging baskets, planters and troughs dead headed and fed with a high potash fertilizer. Tomato food is ideal for this.
- SAVE WATER TIP: We all run the hot tap to fill the bowl for washing up, if you have a container ready to collect the cold water that comes out first (instead of letting it run down the drain) this can be used to water your baskets or containers.
- ALSO, why not invest in a water butt to collect the rain water, this can be used for the garden, baskets and containers.
